Great Box and great people at King Crossfit. I've been to other affiliates though, and noticed that the Trainers seldom do the wods. Isn't it Crossfit etiquette that Trainers coach their members? Noticed that one of your trainers is pretty consistent about working out and posting his time. Found that to be a little discouraging and arrogant.
It has always and will continue to be our goal to provide you (and all of our athletes) with the best coaching and community that ANY Crossfit can offer. As a coach, your best interest is always a priority. I hope you truly see the effort and personal attention that we try to give everyone. As an athlete and part of the King Crossfit community, we...at times, do miss being part of the WOD's and competitive atmosphere. Time, number of rounds, and weight used, will never be a determaning factor of our/your status, respect, or importance at King Crossfit. I personaly enjoy working out with everyone at the BOX, as do the other coaches. I am not, nor do I claim to be an elite athlete, and just like everyone else I have much to work on. With that said,as coaches, how and what we do in the workout is only important if it MOTIVATES you to work hard, INSPIRES you to practice movements, and HOLDS you to the standards of FORM and Range Of Motion.
I visited King CrossFit last March and LOVED that one of the coaches did the WOD with us. I have never felt the close connection with coaches anywhere else in the CrossFit world. Of the three coaches on the floor only Allen did the WOD with us. It was so motivating and fun for me as I tried to kick his ass during Annie. Well, I hate to admit, I didn't even come close. The guy is uber fit like a CrossFit coach should be. But the vibe was so great. I think because Allen was on the floor with me I was really able to feel like a part of their CrossFit family. It is super tight and truly amazing. Every now and then I jump in with my members after asking if that's okay with them. The response is always universal. They love having me do the workout too. We all have such a great fun competitive relationship that I only jump in on the WODs that I know I have some advantage. I hate to look bad in front of my gang!! I find it really sad the "anonymous" fells that a coach posting his time is arrogant. WODs for time is what CrossFit is all about. Maybe "anonymous" should go back to his garage and video himself doing the WODs all alone and then spend the rest of the night watching himself over and over and over so he feels really good about being his own star. Keep up the good work, King. Sending lots of aloha from Maui!
IMO, having the coaches do wods with us shows they're one of us. I expect them to perform better than the rest; they set the pace and standard. That's how they've earned our respect. If I consistently beat them then I'd question their own commitment to CrossFit (my size & weight comparable to the coaches).
As I get better and stronger, so should they. I saw an older post from a wod in 2008, and to my surprise, my time was actually better in comparison when we did the same wod just a couple weeks ago. It showed me that at one point in time they were at the same fitness level as me. My goal is to someday catch up to them, but at the same time I hope they don't let me.
My local favorite boxes including, Tom Nugent of Snoridge CF, Bethany Pappas of CF LIS, Andrew Bueno of Foundation CF, Scott Rodriguez of Stoneway CF, just to name a few, often do their posted daily WOD. I, by any means do not claim to be anywhere at their level, but I do our WODs to improve as a CrossFit athlete. They inspire me! Their posted times on WODs and loads on their lifts are far superior than anything I can put up. I have never once consider them discouraging or arrogant. They are people I strive to someday become.
I admit, I prefer working out with a group rather than by myself, but isn't that what CrossFit is about.? COMMUNITY. When Vip, Duy, Nick, Jessi, Sherriden, Damian, Ron consistently squashes a WOD, I'm simply in awe of their performance. I may even ask them for a tip or strategy to better myself. I consider all the afformentioned athletes as friends. Friends that are openly willing to help me get better. What ever time I post on the WODs is simply for MY records, nothing more. It's to track my WOD and not a barometer for anyone else's.
I will continue to provide the best training I can when I'm insructing a class. I will ALSO continue to do my BEST when I'm doing a WOD. If I happen to post a good time, SWEET! If not, Then it looks like more work to do as usual!
Should anonymous have other concerns about any of the trainers, feel free to talk to anyone of us.
Lastly, thanks to Coach Kaye and Jovi for their comments above.
Great WOD yesterday, I love it when it looks easy on the board then kicks my @ss!
Not sure who Anonymous is but I've worked out at several CrossFit boxes and been a member at another one for almost a year before joining King and most of the coaches all did the WOD at some point during the day.
I've sort of been stewing about this since reading the above post by Anonymous, earlier today. Obviously the Kings coaches can take care of themselves; proof is in their posts. However, I almost feel as if this is a slam towards everyone at Kings. CrossFit is about community to it's core. I feel like Anonymous has a problem with me personally now, since he/she has a problem with one of the members of my "family". I've worked out with every coach at Kings during one WOD or another and it does nothing but motivate me. I've never once felt slighted because a coach wants to get a workout in just like all the rest of us. Actually, it's more of an honor to work out with THE BEST at the box. If someone is offended or discouraged by WOD times, then I'm afraid you're in the wrong place. It's not about the time you post, it's that you actaully finished the WOD with your best effort with family cheering you on along the way.
I am in total agreement with everything said by Ron, Kaye, Jovi, Allen and Matt. King CrossFit is first class all the way. I'm very proud to say that I am a part of the Kings family.
Wow, I am in complete shock that someone would be offended and find the coaches "arrogant" for doing the WODS and posting their times. I completely agree with what everyone else has said. Keep doing what you guys are doing, this is the reason why we all come back. We love you guys!
Your doing something right when you have someone hating on you. Fuck the haters. I've only gone 3 times to king crossfit but everytime I've gone everyone is very supportive. The trainers are there not only to train but to motivate. When I see a trainer do a WOD and see the way they tear thru it and see the time they post its just more motivation for me to improve my time.
We have an awesome box with awesome trainers and most importantly awesome members. The trainers started doing the WODs by themselves and for themselves. They opened the box to help and serve family, friends and colleagues, who have showed interest in CrossFit and a healthier standard of living. Our members are what makes the box a community and a place to gather, get a bad-ass workout with friendly competition and enjoy themselves. Let's respect the personal opinions/feeling of our members, for most everyone who comments here are members of our awesome box.
Not quite sure who anonymous is, or which trainer that comment pertains to, but I personally don't find it offensive to me or to King Crossfit as a whole. Its a member's feedback, and whether its constructive or not, we all have areas to improve on. I think its fair to say, that some members are stronger athletes than others, and some Coaches are stronger Trainers than others, either way we each have things we can improve on individually. we are all a part of a solid Crossfit community, and we should always be open and respectful to member feedback.
Hey, just saw the comments and couldn't help but add in my "two cents":
Dear Anonymous, It really comes down to perspective. As you can see by the comments, some of the athletes at King CF gain inspiration and strength from having the coaches join in on the WODs. I happen to be one of them. So while it may discourage you, it inspires others. (Plus, I like to know my coaches are going through the same exact "misery" as I am for those 20 minutes and wouldn't expect any less of me than they do of themselves.) So it's all perspective and the way I see it. . . it's up to you/me to choose what you what your mind to make of it: arrogance vs inspiration, discouragement vs strength. I choose inspiration and strength!
Being active and relatively healthy my entire life, I was confident that I would have very little trouble getting back into shape after my first daughter was born. I was right. The baby weight came off with very little effort. I was back into shape in no time. This was not the case with baby number two... to read more visit this link or this link
