CrossFit Games 2010

The 2010 CrossFit Games site is up. Check it out here! There will be sectional qualifiers held at the Evergreen State Fairgounds in Monroe on February 27 and 28. We're hoping to field a team to compete at the games in Aromas, California, so if you are interested let Ron Panleo know ASAP.

Do you know where you stand with your CrossFit training? If not, you are probably not getting the most out of this amazing program. Here are the top 6 reasons you might not be seeing results.

  1. Nutrition. What should I eat? In plain language, base your diet on garden vegetables, especially greens, lean meats, nuts and seeds, little starch, and no sugar. That's about as simple as we can get. Many have observed that keeping your grocery cart to the perimeter of the grocery store while avoiding the aisles is a great way to protect your health. Food is perishable. The stuff with long shelf life is all suspect. If you follow these simple guidelines you will benefit from nearly all that can be achieved through nutrition.
  2. Sleep. The second biggest hurdle to success. Get a minimum of 7-8hrs daily. More if you can. Without it, the body doesn't have time to repair itself, you get run down, give less than 100% at the gym, get sick and miss training. Then the cycle repeats over and over.
  3. Intensity. CrossFit workouts are short. If you are going through the motions, you might as well save a few bucks and join Curves. You don't need to yell and scream, go until your hands bleed, or puke after every workout. BUT, nobody ever died from sweat, going without water for 10 minutes, or a calus on their hand. The point is to go as hard as you CAN, not as hard as you FEEL LIKE.
  4. Frequency. 3-6 times per week is ideal. 3-6 times per month is a waste of time.
  5. Logging. If you aren't logging your work, you are not doing CrossFit, period. One of CrossFit's main beliefs is in "measurable and repeatable results". How can you possibly improve your deadlift if you have no idea what you lifted last time? Are you getting better at pull-ups, or worse? Prove it. Numbers never lie and are the only real measurement that we have as to your progress.
  6. Performance Goals. Related to point #5, CrossFit is about performance. If you chase performance, the asthetic that you want will follow. If you chase the asthetic at the expense of performance, you will quickly plateau and stop seeing improvements of any kind. You should CONSTANTLY be challenging yourself to learn a new skill.

  1. Up until now I was very impressed with the inclusiveness and accessibility that crossfit afforded. After spending a couple of months at your box, I purchased a kettle bell, a barbell, some weights, a jump rope, and pull up bar. I pull WODs off of your site or the crossfit main site and when I have a question about form I check the excellent video demos available online and I manage to work out 3-5 times a week despite my working 55 hours a week and managing my household and raising my child. I am now in the best shape I have ever been in and I have no plans to stop working out with crossfit WODs. However I do not ascribe to a set in stone method of eating, sleeping ,exercising ,and thinking dictated to me by someone who has been completely consumed with an "our way is the only way" attitude about life. This crossfit "lifestyle" is a joke. The peleo, the videos of yourselves working out, the snobbish disdain for other exercise programs, it all makes me laugh. Like because you do crossfit you' belong to some elite and exclusive club and everyone else should go join Curves. That doesn't seem like a very good position to take for someone who's trying to build a business, people are motivated by encouragement and positivity not belittlement.
In short, take a step back and try to realize that most people have way too much shit going on in their lives to be totally dedicated to crossfit in the way that you are but that doesn't mean they should stop trying.
P.S. I have no idea what my Fran time is and could not care less.
    I'm gonna go work out.

  4. Dear Anonymous...We are happy to hear you are doing so well with your home workouts and nutrition. We miss your passion and positive energy in the box, we hope to see you soon. Until that time comes, here is a tip for your workouts at home...SQUEEZE your CHEEKS at the top of your squat, deadlift, and KB swings...and not the ones on your face.

    Happy Holidays...Coach Ron...206-234-8076.

  11. Dear Coaches Allen, Arvin, Glen, and Ron.
I wrote that big long comment the other day and I wanted to apologize for the mean tone the comment takes. I get a little wound up sometimes. But calling the CrossFit lifestyle a joke was out of line after all the positive things CF has done for me. But you four guys in particular and the members of your box in general were nothing but cool to me and my family and if it weren't for you i'd still be out of breath after taking out the trash. Thank you so very much for all your hard work, keep it up. Happy Holidays.
    Respectfully,
    Andrew M. Hardersen
P.S. Arvin I still owe you some squats, I'll get you back.
P.P.S. What the hell is a block?

  12. Andy,
Thanks for coming forward...everyone has a right to there opinion...we just couldn't imagine having someone workout w/ us and have them feel as if we push an "our way is better" than yours attitude. We have never been nor do we intend to portray a hardcore crossfit mentality. Your Fran time is only important to us if its important to you. The WOD's are tough enought on their own, thats why we try to have fun joke around most of the time. I personaly value effort, commitment, and attitude over time, score and repitions.
Not everyone will or has to like Crossfit, but everyone likes Coach Arv...We would still like to see you guys in the box...keep an eye out for that afternoon class in might happen.
    Take Care,
    coach Ron
P.S. I think its Burpees you might owe us.
